Break Free

Spring Siren

  • The friend who inspired this painting commented, she love the wings. It reminded me of how I started painting, searching butterflies on Pinterest. I wanted to find the perfect wings to copy... yes copy.

I was blocked on the wings. I couldn’t decided what to paint, and even, I dare say, afraid to paint the wings.

When I came to actually painting, I discarded the pictures and just painted what came to my heart and mind, playing with color and texture.

Moral: We can’t copy anyone else’s wings. They are designed for the individual. Regardless of the color, the shape, the texture of our wings, they are all beautiful and deserve to be seen and to soar. ❤️✌️😊🍀💥#butterfly #fly #rise #painting #inspiration
Coming to a blank canvas is always frightening. As the blank page in writing, we worry what if what we create is terrible, what if we suck. Regardless, of the eventuality of what is created, it is always and expression. Here is a means as how art represents life.

Art as life is impermanent. As we go along creating, we can revise and change. We can edit our words, we can erase, we can paint over. As a writer, I live to edit...constantly. As a painter, I often paint over mistakes or something I don’t like. However, what is true in art and life, we cannot predict outcomes. For me, and many other artists, what appears on the page and the canvas is totally unexpected... good and bad.

Sure, we can get good enough to control the words we type, our brushstrokes, we can elevate ourselves to near perfection, but always there will be a surprise, something hidden in the process that shines through.

We are coming to a life that is unexpected. We awake each new day in this new world where we’re at sheltered at home. What do we create in this new experience? Are we frightened? Are we terrified? How do we move forward to recreate not only what is on our blank page, our blank canvas and our new lives?
